Helping at Home
Homework:
· Check the pod website (www.galaxypod.com) to know what goes on in class each day and to watch review videos.
· Each student has been given a planner by the school. Encourage your student to write down all assignments or homework so you both know what needs to get done.
· Create a special space for working on school assignments where there are few distractions.
Test Preparation:
· Many teachers provide students with “I Can” statements that should guide their studying. Worksheets, notes, homework, etc. are great sources of information and often have the “I Can” statement written at the top.
· Quiz your student on information from worksheets, notes, homework, etc.
· Let your student know that tests are important, but not to stress out. As a pod, we want our students to gain mastery of concepts. Just like learning to ride a bike or make a cake from scratch, sometimes it takes multiple tries before you really figure out what you are doing. While we expect students to study the material throughout the unit and prepare for the test, we understand that learning and mastery can take several attempts. We allow test retakes for students who are unable to show mastery the first time.
Behavior:
· Teach your student what it means to be a good citizen and how to be a good citizen at home.
· Talk to your student about bullying. Let him or her know that bullying others is unacceptable and where to go if he or she is being bullied. The school has a bullying text line so students who wish to remain anonymous can alert the counselors of bullying.
· Attendance/Tardies: We need your student in class! Encourage your student to be on time to school and each class. Oftentimes students who are late miss important things at the beginning such as homework, announcements, and directions.
Thank you for all you do to support your student. Our students are the best!
